I'll warn you that making string blocks is addicting but if you're ready to begin we'll point you to Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville site where you'll find a String Quilting Primer to get you started.
If you plan to make blocks to mail in for HeartStrings group quilts PLEASE read the guidelines first as Bonnie's blocks are constructed with a few differences.
However, if your plan is to make the top and request it be quilted by a volunteer quilter or if you're making the entire quilt yourself then any method, any string pattern goes! This Basketweave Strings is one of my favorites from Bonnie's site.

After 3 months of making string blocks, I am having a hard time returning to sewing where I have to measure everything. It is so fun to just put on an audio book and mindlessly sew.
I am sure Bonnie H. has no idea of to what degree exactly of just what she has gotten started since posting these FREE string quilt directions on her blog!!! :c)
I discovered them last year and made a few hundred blocks for a swap - even put together two quilts of my own... and then at the end of 2006 many members of Stashbuster began talking about them and before you know it heartstrings was born!
I am so proud to be even just a small part of a project that will have a HUGE impact on many people's lives thru the gift of giving.
